When Ocarina of Time came it stunned the world with its graphics. They had never been seen before and also it was the first 3D Zelda game. Japan had the first honour of playing this game as it came out on the 21st November 1998 and the shortly followed to America on the 23rd. Europeans was last (again) to get their hands on this amazing game on 18th December 1998. What a perfect Christmas present. Ocarina of Time sold over five million copies in the first six months and won 'Game of The Year' 1999! Is this the greatest game of all time?

The game begins in the Kokiri Forest (We love that place!) and Link has been summoned by the Great Deku Tree. Link is told about a curse put on the tree, obviously Link then goes out to find out what set the curse upon the Great Deku Tree. From this the game's story is expanded massively. He enters the Great Deku Tree and has to battle his way through a small dungeon to gather his first of three spiritual stones. The Kokiri Emerald, the Spiritual Stone of the Forest. The Great Deku Tree then dies and tells Link that a man in black armour cast the dreadful curse upon him. Link must now go and see Princess Zelda at Hyrule Castle.

The idea of the game is that Link has to gather these three spiritual stones so that he can open the sacred realm in the Temple of Time to stop Gannon. When Link does get all of the spiritual stones and plays the ocarina (which Zelda gave him) the Sacred Realm then opens BUT Gannon get in there himself and causes havoc for 7 years. When Link pulls the Master Sword out he is frozen in time until 7 years later where he is now in young adolescence and is the Hero of Time. He was frozen in time because he was not ready at his current age but now in his later teens he is seen as the hero. Link has to find five sages and bring them together (there are seven), they can defeat Ganondorf and imprison him within the Sacred Realm. So this is his new quest. Without telling you the ending I can tell you that Saria (yes, a kokiri kid) is one of them sages.

It is believed that Ocarina of time is a prequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past because that game tells of seven wise men sealing Ganon in the Sacred Realm (seven sages anyone?). A Link to the Past also describes how Ganon started out as a thief named Ganondorf.

This game is truly amazing and this has been proved as it has been re-released on the Gamecube. If you pre-ordered The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker it came on a bonus disc which also included the Master Quest (this was unreleased outside of Japan). Then was released on The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition.
